NORTH EXPLORER ACADEMY FIND OUT IF YOU'VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES |
The North Explorer Academy is known as one
of the finest Explorer academies in Los Angeles County. The discipline,
demeanor, knowledge, and training each recruit receives gives them a solid
foundation for a future in law enforcement, or in whatever career field
they choose. Below is just a sample of what the Recruits
of Class #66 - our most recent class - experienced and learned.

In addition to numerous other activities
and classes, all recruits must successfully memorize over 300 radio codes,
20 penal codes, and hundreds of spelling words, and pass over 30 tests
on these codes and words in order to continue in the Academy.
A notebook must be turned in upon request that is graded on neatness, content,
grammar, and spelling. These notebooks must receive a passing
grade.
The Academy is much more than academics,
however. Each recruit must be in top physical condition or
will be washed out by circuit training, distance runs, and other forms
of physical training. Towards the end of the academy,
each class must run a 4 - 6 mile "colors run," where they at last earn
their shoulder patches and star. All recruits must finish
the run and stay in formation, or no one receives their patches.
The Academy is a tightly run paramilitary
environment, where speaking or moving when not authorized to do so usually
results in disciplinary action. Recruits are taught drill
and ceremonies and are required to function smoothly as a team.
After 18 weeks of training, North Academy
graduates emerge fully ready to meet the challenges of Exploring, and will
have an edge of confidence, poise, and experience that many others will
never have.
The North Academy conducts its training
on Saturdays from 7:00AM to 3:00PM. The average class received
is 50 recruits. The average class graduated is 20 Explorers.
